Welcome to the Indiana Gold Prospector

There is a need here for a source of news from Indiana's prospectors, feel free to email me with your input at goldminer1966@yahoo.com

I'm looking for input.  I want to list favorite places to go, who to talk to and where the gold is.  Anyone who wants to contribute information is welcome.  Send me your pics too.  I'll create pages for local clubs and organizations.  This will hopefully become a place to visit and know you're in good company!

Outings and upcoming events!

I never know about the outings until after the fact.  If you have an outing listing contact me and let me know the when and where and I'll post it here!!

Adams Mill

October 25th.  Adams Mill.  All day event, with the club meeting at 5pm.  For directions you can search for Adams Mill on Google or go to the Central Indiana GPAA Link above and inquire about the location.  I think it's in Culver, IN.  Never been there but looking forward to it this year.

New Rules for Indiana Prospectors!

Check out the updates here!

Morgan-Monroe State Forest/ Yellowwood State Forest

It's almost winter again and that means permits if you like to prospect the State Forests.  Remember you need to have them on you if you're stopped.  Chances are you won't be, I have never seen anyone while I was "on the creek bank".  Then again if you're a mayhem magnet then you might want to laminate yours!

I have always had good luck in MMSF.  You have to go deep back up the trail to find where the gold is hiding.  Also keep your eyes peeled around the creek bed and any fallen logs or brush piles as this is where Morgan-monroe Copperheads and Rattlesnakes like to hang out.  Cabela's sells a rubber, scent-lock snake boot for around $70.  It might be worth the investment if your heading to Deadman Hollow.

Contact the Forestry office by email at: morgansf@dnr.IN.gov

Owen-Putnam State Forest

Ok,..so I'm letting out one of my secrets.  Owen-Putnam State Forest is a great place to prospect if you love bedrock!  I especially like Rattlesnake Creek.  I have found plenty of flour gold and some small course flakes too!  Just remember you need a permit for Owen-Putnam SF also.  You can contact them at :

Owen-Putnam State Forest

I bought a 4-5 pound of cons (Coker Creek) at the Gold Show.  Sent it threw my clean-up sluice and yielded about 40 colors, from coarse flakes to fines.  I was pleased.

I bought a $50 bag of their cons at the Dayton Gold Show.  I was impressed to find a 1 dwt picker along with about 14 grains of fines.  If I remember right they had bags ranging from $15 upto $200.  It's good gold.

Editorials

Got something to say?  Send it to me and I'll post it here.  Sometimes it feels better to relieve your frustrations ( gold fever or other) by sharing what's on your mind!  Are you a GPAA supporter?  Do you feel let down by national leadership in the GPAA?  Lets hear from you.

It looks like another summer is just about over.  That leaves fall prospecting.  I go out until usually November.  It's good to have Neopreme gloves for the cold water!  I didn't get out much this summer but I will next summer for sure.  I'm already planning a trip to N.C. to try my luck there.

9/21/08 - Had a great time at MMSF Saturday the 20th.  Found some color and got some fresh air.  Brought home about 15 pounds of rough cons to pan out.  Still finding color.  Next month I think the outing is at Gatesville, but I'm going to the GPAA Gold show at Dayton, OH that day, so I'll likely not be in attendance.

10/11/08 - I'm working on a new suction device.  I'm in the planning stages right now but as winter comes on I'll have more time to develop it.  If it works I'll post it here.  I got my idea from the regular gold sucker.  If you're working on something too let me know when you're ready to share it with the world, I'll post it here too.

10/19/08 - Went to the GPAA Gold and Treasure show yesterday with my wife.  We had a great time. It was fun seeing all the people that love prospecting coming together and to see all the vendors show such care in what they do. I wish more folks from Indiana had attended.  Saw five Hoosiers all day.

10/24/08 - Heading up to Northern Indiana this weekend to an "undisclosed location".  Really looking forward to the trip.  Hoping for a good day prospecting.  It's supposed to turn sunny and windy that's good news I was afraid it was going to rain.  If I do good I'll post some pics here.  Good luck to everyone at Adams Mill this weekend.

11/1/08 - Went to Owen-Putnam today to my favorite spot.  It's bedrock heaven.  I found color in the working the cracks.  Nothing big but it was fun.  I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of water.  We need a good rain to add some depth to this creek.  There are a few pics of my trip here.

03/22/09 - This weekend was the Central Indiana GPAA outing at Morgan-Monroe State Forest.  I wanted to go but I have been hit over and over again the last couple months with illness.  I'm recovering even now from a combination of Influenza/Pneumonia.  I hope to make the next outing.  I'll update this site  in the days to come.

06/27/09 - Well I haven't done much with this site.  I apologize.  I used about 24 megs of bandwidth though for June so that is a good thing.  I know that folks keep checking back.  My job has been crazy.  We had mega orders to get out by June 25th before the holiday shutdown.  I'm off until July 6th, so hopefully I can get in here and do something creative.  Again I apologize for not taking better care of the site.
